Ruben De Gheselle Wins World Soundtrack Award and Expands Project Slate

Belgian composer Ruben De Gheselle has been named Belgian Film Composer of the Year at the World Soundtrack Awards, held in October 2025. Powered by Sabam and presented during the event’s 25th edition, the honour celebrates his “subtle and intimate” scores for Young Hearts and There Was, There Was Not.

De Gheselle has also been nominated for Best Music at the Ensor Awards. His recent credits include the Irish-Belgian series Showkids, the crime series Patience co-composed by Hannes De Maeyer, and the Dutch feature Our Girls, directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Mike van Diem.

He is currently composing the score for the Gothic horror feature The Wolf Will Tear Your Immaculate Hands, directed by Nathalie Álvarez Mesén and starring Alexander Skarsgård. Mesén’s English-language follow-up to Clara Sola is set in the misty 1880s Pacific Northwest and centers on a British widower who hires a Native American governess for his two daughters; as the eldest is prepared for an arranged marriage, unsettling forces begin to surface in the household. The film also features Darla Contois, Bronte Carmichael, Lily La Torre, Forrest Goodluck and Pernilla August, and showcases Mesén’s signature blend of intimate character work with darker, period atmosphere.

De Gheselle has also started on two additional major projects: the Flemish dramedy series Vero Forever, a comedic drama about a man seeking a fresh start amid complex personal ties (in production with Lunanime for Belgian broadcast platforms) ; and Elma, an international crime thriller series adapted from Icelandic bestselling novels, produced by Glassriver and co-produced with Belgium’s Lunanime and set to reach global audiences.
