🎬 Talent Spotlight: Ruben De Gheselle

Belgian composer Ruben De Gheselle continues to make his mark across film and television with his evocative, minimalist scores. He is currently nominated for the World Soundtrack Award 'Belgian Film Composer of the Year' for his work on Anthony Schatteman’s Young Hearts.

Recent highlights include Our Girls — directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Mike van Diem, which opened the Nederlands Film Festival and won three Golden Calves, including Best Film — and the Irish series Showkids, written and directed by Hugh O’Connor, now airing on RTÉ. He also composed for the ARD mini-series NAKED (co-composed with Eloi Ragot, now streaming) and the Dutch feature Koning van de Zwervers, which opened Cinekid 2025.

Ruben is currently working on the second season of Channel 4 crime drama Patience (co-composed by Hannes De Maeyer) and on The Wolf Will Tear Your Immaculate Hands, directed by Nathalie Álvarez Mesén. The gothic-tropical drama, set in the 1860s Pacific Northwest, follows a Native American governess sent to work for an English family. Exploring themes of patriarchal structures and decolonization, the film is produced by the same team behind Álvarez Mesén’s acclaimed debut Clara Sola for which Ruben won the George Delerue Award for Best Music!

With his poetic restraint and immersive musical voice, De Gheselle continues to carve a distinctive path among Europe’s most compelling contemporary screen composers.
